Hi! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences in Enterprise UX. We discussed from a few perspectives and here are the note.
What might be the causes for enterprise apps to move towards about UX? – We think it is the younger workforce who grew up with Facebook/Google/etc and consumerisation of IT (more and more workers have access to consumer apps with good UX)
Characteristics of Enterprise Apps – Established user base who has no choice but to use the app. Frequency of use depends on functionality: daily uses of accounting app versus yearly use of appraisal system.
Internal politics are one of the challenges to implement (UX) change in enterprise app. There are few points shared by the group:
- Pick the low hanging fruits – Prioritize changes and weigh the outcome. Go for the easy change that gives the most benefits.
- Incremental change – Roll out changes phase by phase. Test early.
- Roll out changes to friendly staff first – One example shared by one of the group member: for a financial app used by high net worth persons, roll out the change to CEO’s friends who fit the user profile.
Another example shared was an enterprise app used by Actuaries who need to process lots of data in bulk, so efficiency is important. Besides normal users, the app needs to cater for power users who value features like short-cut keys. Another requirement for the app that is different from consumer app is the audit trail feature to track “who and when change what”.
What are the challenges you face in designing enterprise app? How do you overcome them? Let’s hear from you!
