The 57th UXSG Meetup was held on Thursday, 13 June 2019 from 7pm at 111 Middle Road, National Design Centre Level 2, Training studio rooms 1-5.
This month we continued our second run of the Lunch Buddy and Reading Club experiments. Additionally, we revisited a familiar format – a modified Lean Coffee session.

#1 – Lunch Buddy
Lunch Buddy is an experiment to see how we can encourage meaningful relationships beyond the meetup event. At the start of the event, attendees dropped their contact details in a paper bag and collected a new one at the end of the evening. It is then up to individual attendees to get in touch with and meet their Lunch Buddy for a chat.
#2 – Reading Club
The Reading Club runs in parallel to the Lean Coffee session. We are experimenting with how a Reading Club can result in more diverse and engaging conversations centred around books of interest.
This month, we discussed the book Ruined by Design by Mike Monteiro. As shared in the Reading Club WhatsApp group: “Ruined by Design explores the burden of responsibility that designers have, and why it’s important that we look beyond our work and think about the kind of greater impact it has on society.”

#3 – Lean Coffee
At UXSG, Lean Coffee starts with a 30 minute, 1-1 conversation between attendees. We do this so everyone gets to know one another. It also helps us build a safe space for deeper conversations in the latter part of the session.
Following that, we generated and voted on discussion topics. We then split into four groups for self-driven conversations.
Thank you to all the attendees for the delightful conversations. We hope you left with good learnings and new relationships. See you again for the next meetup!
